frequently asked questions

CO2 savings

they are calculated comparatively to the actual way of disposal (thermal disposal resp. incineration) and are referred as CO2 equivalents. Calculation base for the amount of CO2 released at incineration are the decomposition reactions from the monomers under assumption of full, oxidative decomposition.

Additionaly to that there is the substitution of virgin polymers (evaluated according informations from polymer producers) by regranulates, having additional CO2 equivalents consumed due to the recycling process applied. Data about recycling processes are retrieved from machinery producers.

Transports

Logistical processes show a rather low impact in general. On the one hand, because waste materials can be transported as single pallets also via collective logistics and logistical hubs to recyclers. On the other hand there are also comparably evaluated transport ways for thermally disposal actions.

Data for calculation of CO2 equivalents from transport vehicles are retrieved from logistic partners for parcel transports, small trucks up to 7,5 t as well as big trucks with 12-24 t loading weight. All transport ways are calculated from Google Maps data in the Circular-Print platform.

Certificates

They are created once a year for licenced Circular-Print partners from our certification partner, Joh.-Kepler Universität Linz. As far as registered partners crossed the licencing fee option at registration these yearly certificates are supplied online and can be retrieved after login by any addressed partner.

CSR - Sustainability Reports

It is important to understand that calculated CO2 savings can be used in CSR reports of printing company partners. They can decide by themselves whether their end customers or they directly are using these informations in their reports. These relations between printing companies and their end customers are retrievable as reference in the Circular-Print platform and can be followed by the certification partner.

Similarly is valid for end customer groups of printing companies where CO2 saving data are available groupwide OR countrywise, depending on their requirements. These rules can be followed by the certification partner in the Circular-Print platform.

Recycling partners are NOT allowed to use CO2 saving data in their CSR reports to avoid parallel reportings.

Certificates for recycling partners

Certificates are produced to verify waste quantities transferred to new recycled products. Connected CO2 savings are referred, but it is noted clearly that only printing company partners are allowed to use them in CSR reports.

Bonifications or extra costs for waste materials

As far as the actual market situation allows any bonifications then recycling partners can agree on a certain amount of EURO per ton as bonification for the printing company partner. For sure this is a rather extraordinary situation. Our Circular-Print index gives a guideline for that and our experience is that indices above 130 are possibly allowing this. In such a case the recycling partner could arrange an agreed bonification with his printing company partner directly. The Circular-Print platform is not involved directly and could assist via its communication features.

On the contrary it is strictly avoided that any extra costs are invoiced by recycling partners. Therefore extra contracts would be needed between both the partners bilaterally. End customers are free of any costs generally.

Financing Circular-Print

Circular-Print is a service platform and not involved in any business relations between the registered partners. Therefore it is financed via yearly licence fees which are invoiced to registered printing company, recycling and logistic partners only.
